A Films Ouverts – Film Festival Against Racism and for interculturalism in Belgium

A Films Ouverts (meaning Open Films in French) is a Film Festival aiming to open the debate on racism issues and interculturalism. The particularity of this festival lies in its media education approach that encourages participants to take a critical distances towards the images of the Other shown in movies.

A Films Ouverts est un festival du film ayant pour objectif d’ouvrir le débat sur les questions relatives au racisme et à l’interculturalisme. La particularité de ce festival réside dans son approche d’éducation aux médias qui encourage les participants à prendre des distances critiques par rapport aux images de l’Autre présentées dans les films.

A Films Ouverts (meaning Open Films in French) is a Film Festival aiming to open the debate on racism issues and interculturalism. The particularity of this festival lies in its media education approach that encourages participants to take a critical distances towards the images of the Other shown in movies. During the debates, media educators support viewers in identifying and challenging the stereotypes and racist representations but also to discuss the representation of interculturality depicted in the movies. Besides the feature films, A Films Ouverts also organises a short film contest against racism. All citizens (young or older ones, amateur, schools, non-profit organisation) can propose a film. The film selected are screened during special sessions where the public can vote for its favourite film. In total, the Festival gather more than 75 screenings (short and feature film) followed by debates in French speaking Belgium from 15th till 30th of March.
