What effects does the often negative image of young people have on themselves? How to overcome it? Which instrumentalization to denounce?
What kind of freedom has a filmmaker when he films in an institution? What space for freedom for people filmed when they are “locked up” in an institutional context ? And finally, which elements guide the director’s choices for the selection of scenes?
What are the limits on what is shown on the screen? How to envisage the responsibility and the lack of control of the effects that certain images can have on the public?
So many questions and debates that have feed the sessions « Regards croisés » between a facilitator and documentary filmmakers during the morning of “Decoding the Doc”, the final event of MEET project.
You were almost 150 participants to join us at the Cinema Palace, in the heart of Brussels on November 15! Thank you for your participation !
The afternoon workshops were dynamically run by animators from three different organizations who approached the documentary under complementary perspectives: the documentary as an object of analysis, the documentary as a means of expression and the documentary as an educational resource. Meanwhile, seven international experts exchanged views and comments on the evaluation of MEET results and outputs.

Quels effets l’image médiatique souvent négative des jeunes provoque-t-elle sur eux-mêmes ? Comment y pallier ? Quelle instrumentalisation dénoncer ?
Quelle liberté pour un réalisateur quand il filme dans une institution ? Quelle liberté pour les personnes filmées quand ils sont « enfermés » dans un cadre institutionnel ? Et finalement, qu’est-ce qui oriente les choix du réalisateur pour la sélection des scènes ?

Autant de questions et de débats qui ont animé les sessions de regards croisés entre un.e facilitateur.trice et des réalisateurs.trices de documentaire lors de la matinée de « Décoder le Doc », évènement final du projet MEET.

Les ateliers de l’après-midi ont été dynamiquement portés par des animateurs de trois organisations différentes qui abordent le documentaire sous des regards complémentaires : le documentaire comme objet d’analyse, le documentaire comme moyen d’expression et le documentaire comme ressource pédagogique. Pendant ce temps, sept experts internationaux échangeaient leurs points de vue et commentaires quant à l’évaluation des résultats et productions du projet MEET.
